The Focus Project has members far and wide across the UK and classes anyone who works with us or even alongside us as collaborators of the project. But along with the many people who pitch in on projects to help out or simply have sent us one thing or another in the past we have a group of consistent members and practitioners who make up the Focus Project collective and over all Focus team.

The Focus Project Founders.

Graham Cooling – Director/Main administrator/Film-maker

The main administrator and motivated force behind the project Graham is a photographer and film-maker based within Lincolnshire, within his work his interest in film making and film creation can be seen easily; appealing to all aspects of his personality; creativity, logical process, story telling and most of all hard work! During his time at University he created many projects and has participated in every aspect of film-making whether it be helping out as lighting technician, sound assistant, cameraman etc on a friend’s film; or filming his own. But  he also has a deeply engrained love for writing, his weekly blog on The Focus Project being ‘Yelling at concrete’ in which he often takes stabs at the film industry, people in general and his own reality. Along side this he contributes to many of the articles and other blogs around the site liking to keep involved with every aspect of The Focus Project.

Jeanine Marteau – Editor/Photographer

I’ve been devoted to photography for seven years now, recently graduated from a video and photography course and am continuing with my own ideas and photography work. I write various blogs and articles and have a mountain of sketch books and note books for all of these things. Could do with another book shelf.  I never really stick to one genre, style or technique because there is so much to explore and so much to take inspiration from to create concepts. I’m open to every aspect of photography and am pleased to say that after seven years, it still fascinates me and influences my everyday. Always looking for new inspiration and always creating :)

Matt Brodigan – Editor /Film-maker

‘Matt Brodigan has always had a fascination with moving image and film, drawing inspiration from such prolific auteurs as Kevin Smith, Park Chan-Wook, the Coen Brothers and Quentin Tarantino. Due to these main interests his work can be seen as darkly comic at times, playing with subject matters such as relationships, anti social behavior and just trying to fit in. Rather than swaying towards quick cuts and fast-moving sequences Matt will focus more on creating an environment and using long takes to place and leave his audience there, to watch the scene unfold in front of them. Creating a very specific feel to his films by using highly stylized grading and colour schemes Matt has learnt to be able to lead audiences in certain directions, only to place a twist in the narrative to turn or even shock his audiences from their original assumptions of how the film was going to play out. Ideally Matt would like to work on narrative based film projects, however has been known to produce documentary work on various subject matters from sport to family life.’

Dominic Clark – Writer/ Photographer

My name is Dominic Clark and I am a Lincolnshire based contemporary portrait & lifestyle photographer. My interest in art and photography has driven me to constantly challenge myself and create new and visually interesting pieces of work, some of which have been exhibited, and it is this sensibility I bring to every piece I create. Having studied these practices for almost 10 years it’s combining these ideas and processes that gives my work its aesthetic. In tailoring this approach to each piece you get something truly personal and unique each time. Whether it’s a wedding, family portrait or engagement shoot. I will always endeavour to make sure each shoot has the flair and dynamic that will really make every image something special.

Benji Corless – Writer / Film-maker

Benji Corless is a filmmaker and artist working as a freelance editor and DOP in Bristol. Operating as half of {Videoloft}, he is interested in making as many films as he can before he dies, spanning every possible genre and medium. His work has been nominated for best editing and best experimental work as well as screening all around the world. Working from a fine art perspective in film, Benji has a taste for the lo-fi, the melancholic and the darkly surreal but is desperately trying to wean himself back towards the mainstream. He probably wont ever get there.
He also apologizes for writing at length, To follow his latest film projects, artistic ramblings and incredible films, head on over to…

She gave it up to spend more time with her daughter but now wishes to  develop a career within the film production industry on the other side of the camera.

Alex Parker – Blogger/ Illustration student

Alex is a mystery of The Focus Project wanting to remain mystical and intriguing she never shows her face instead we receive brown envelopes taped to trees and long-winded instructions on how to convert the VHS tape which is in the envelope into a DVD and then we transcribe what she says. Or something like that. But either way she is our go to on all things design and illustration and never questions that we pay her in elderberries.

Elaine Akester – Writer

I am inspired by truth and enjoy writing, mainly poetry and flash fiction. I love great literature, films and art, those that are defined by their individuality and ability to entertain or disrupt our thinking processes. I appreciate the skills involved in producing amazing art work as I am completely lacking in the technical department but am chokker with ideas and words. I have joint honours Degree in English/History and recently completed MA in Creative Writing at Lincoln University; I have collections of poetry and short stories and have started work on my next project The Making of the Girl Next Door. I use images and props for poetry collections and readings and am claiming the invention of the term Prop Poetry, although this is probably false.
